Hi everyone,
We have almost finished the last of examinations for 2009. Congratulations on yet another year of overall improvement with syllabus work.

JazzAddict annual registration form, workshop registration form, JazzAddict resources order form and JazzAddict 2009 registered studios are attached to this email. BBDS forms to follow separately.
Deadline for annual registrations: 1 December 2009 (a late fee of $25 applies to registrations received after this date)
Deadline for workshop registrations: 1 December 2009 (a late fee of $25 applies after this date)
Membership
JazzAddict and BBDS are now managed as two separate companies so all studios doing both syllabi are required to register and pay for both individual syllabus. Please ensure all registrations are payable to the relevant company. It is important that you complete your annual registration to license your studio to teach the Broken Beat Dance Syllabus and Jazzaddict Syllabus. If you know of any schools in your region who are no longer registered but are still teaching the syllabus work, please advise us as soon as possible so we can ensure they are not to use the work. It is compulsory for studios to enter students for examinations/medals if they are providing the syllabus in their studio. A list of registered JazzAddict schools is attached to this email.
2010 TEACHER WORKSHOP/ CONVENTION
21st and 22nd January 2010 – 9.30am – 5.30pm each day
Please set aside 21st evening for a get-together at a local restaurant (tba).
Sydney Dance Company (Dance Studio 4)
The Wharf, Pier 4
Hickson Road
Walsh Bay (near The Rocks), Sydney, Australia.
Constructed in the early 1900s, the Walsh Bay wharves are now a significant part of Sydney’s cultural heritage, and The Wharf an important heritage building. The closest station is Circular Quay. Our hotel supplier is not in a convenient vicinity so we encourage you to book your accommodation ensuring easy access to Circular Quay (or the transport network for Circular Quay).
The workshop will see the release of the final BBDS grade – Advanced 3/Solo and the official launch of the Preschool Jazz syllabus (available now). We will also introduce the QC (quality control) programme as an optional service to schools to officially assess and give feedback to improve and inspire existing teachers (who should be our biggest assets but can also be our major liabilities!). We will also release the optional musical theatre amalgamations for JazzAddict offering unisex items to ensure both male and female students are catered for as they climb the grades.
The business component will cover some useful tips as well as a presentation on ‘Selling your Business’ which you should start planning for 5 – 10 years in advance if you wish to optimise your return on investment.
Given that workshops are compulsory (to maintain the syllabi standards), the decision to hold workshops every second year was made to enable all studios two years to set aside funds to attend the workshop in one location. If you are unable to attend, please ensure you send a senior teacher as your representative. The content will be invaluable and there will still be time to network and have some fun.
We look forward to seeing you all there – it’s going to be great!
Syllabus Orders
We will be closed down from 18th December – 10th January so if you require any syllabus orders prior to this date, please advise us asap. We will be contactable on mobile from time to time but we will not have access to syllabus stock during this ‘close-down’ period.
Examinations
Congratulations to all top mark students and studios (see separate sheet). JazzAddict results are attached however we still have some remaining examinations to complete for BBDS so the top mark students for hip hop will be emailed once the final examinations are complete.
The scholarship monetary award is made up of $150 plus the refund for the cost of the examination. Two certificates per student will be provided – one for the student and one for the studio to display if they wish. Cheques and certificates will be distributed at workshop in January. Scholarship awards are in $NZ.
Studio Scholarships
A reminder that the scholarship cheques will be payable to the studio rather than to the student. We believe that a socially responsible studio will know best how to disperse the award money depending on their situation (as all studios are different). The studio will choose how to allocate funds (ie. the studio may wish to recognise the teacher and give the teacher a bonus out of the scholarship fund or you may wish to put the scholarship money against the winning students’ account toward tuition fees to ensure it is put back into dance education). However the funds are dispersed it is important that only those directly involved should benefit (ie. studio, teacher, student) and we highly recommend that the student should receive at least their examination refund plus part (if not all) of the scholarship payment.
Preschool Syllabus – NEW RELEASE!
We are excited to have released the preschool jazz syllabus this year and will launch it at workshop. You will find that it provides focus to your preschool class, encourages concentration and fun, as well as providing a firm preparation for Primary Jazz 1. We believe that you will retain more of your preschoolers if they have the focus of a medal test to work towards. The syllabus is designed for students of 4 years to transition them through to Primary Jazz 1 (5 years). The syllabus is available now.
Musical Theatre Optional Amalgamations – NEW RELEASE!
This fabulous dvd provides options for all grades of Jazz Musical Theatre amalgamations. These options provide a unisex amalgamations through the grades and include favourites from ‘Beauty & the Beast’, ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Wicked’, ‘Cats’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘Cat in the Hat’ and many, many more. Advanced grades have two further options. All 16 amalgamations are on one disc and music is also provided. This package is available now.
The purpose of this optional dvd is purely to give teachers some fresh variety after teaching the same work for the past few years. It is certainly not compulsory or necessary to purchase in order to prepare students for examinations.
Optional Music – JazzAddict – NEW RELEASE!
Music is provided with all JazzAddict grade dvds however for those who have been using the provided music for several years may be interested in purchasing optional music at the workshop for a refreshing change. You are welcome to select your own music but we know how expensive and time-consuming this can be so we are pleased to offer optional music cds at only $20 per grade. CDs will be available and you can mix and match your music to suit your preferences. Obviously the Musical Theatre track will remain the same.
The music license covers teacher training use therefore we make these cds available on the assumption that you hold your own studio music license (which covers use of music in your classes).
The purpose of this optional music is purely to give teachers some fresh variety after teaching the same work for the past few years. It is certainly not compulsory or necessary to purchase in order to prepare students for examinations.
Hip Hop Optional Amalgamations – NEW RELEASE!
The Hip Hop Optional Amalgamations dvd will be available from term 1 next year (B-bop – Intermediate 1). This dvd provides optional hip hop amalgamations in addition to those on the original grade dvds (ie. if you would like some fresh work you can replace an amalgamation in the syllabus work to the corresponding amalgamation on the ‘Optional Amalgamation’ dvd). For example, you could replace ‘Amalgamation 1’ from Elementary 2 with the ‘Elementary 2 Optional Amalagamation 1’ from the optional dvd. The amalgamations will be examined using the same criteria. The purpose of this optional dvd is purely to give teachers some fresh variety after teaching the same work for the past few years. It is certainly not compulsory or necessary to purchase in order to prepare students for examinations.
Teacher Examinations
Congratulations to Chelsea Holdom of Kim Hoeft Dance Studios who gained her JazzAddict Teacher Certificate this year. This is a very involved examination which requires many hours of teaching and first-aid prerequisite work, an oral examination and a practical examination. We know that the knowledge and skills gained, combined with the feedback from the examiner, will stand Chelsea in good stead in the classroom.
