Jazzaddict Australasia is an exciting dance syllabus bringing jazz dance into the twenty-first century. The syllabus has been developed to create passionate, versatile jazz dancers who are empowered and encouraged to be creative with their own style and choreography.
Jazzaddict Australasia :
- is technically stimulating with a strong emphasis on style and performance (all levels incorporate a classical technique exercise to supplement jazz technique).
- will encourage student creativity by incorporating impromptu work and student choreography.
- will expose students to the different jazz styles including musical theatre (from Junior levels) lyrical work (from Elementary grades), and contemporary work (from Intermediate levels).
- is committed to providing a complete package including a ground-breaking jazz dance syllabus, the most advanced teaching resources, as well as personal assistance and teacher support. This includes assistance to new studio owners in start-up phase, as well as established studio directors who are seeking fresh, vibrant new work to grow their business.
At a glance :
- Registration. Studios must be registered to teach the Jazzaddict syllabus. Registration is valid for one calendar year (1 January – 31 December).
- 15 grades in total (including Solo Seal). Students can access the syllabus at different ages and levels of experience from preschool to adults (the Jazzaddict Studio Manual provides entry level guidelines). There are special exam allowances in the technical requirements for adult students. In addition to the grades, we also offer a Teacher Examination which includes a comprehensive textbook to ensure your teachers are trained in everything from health and safety to client communication. This is an examination which involves oral and practical components.
- Sophisticated Teaching Resources. Teaching notes, dvds and cds provide clear “user-friendly” learning. The teaching dvds include rear view and slow-motion options for amalgamations. All dvds include music which is licensed for teacher training use. Teachers may use the cd provided (assuming the studio holds a music license for dance classes) or their own choice of music.
- Examinations. All registered studios are required to enter students for examinations. These are held in the third term of the school year. Examiners come to your region and examine students in your studio. Grades allocated range from Pass through to Honours.
- Awards (including monetary scholarships toward tuition at their dance studio), are presented to the top student of each level overall in Australasia. The Jazzaddict Studio Manual provides comprehensive information regarding Jazzaddict examination processes and details (or view ‘exam info’ on this website).
- Safety Precautions. A qualified physiotherapist has approved the Jazzaddict Australasian dance syllabus however, it is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that students warm up, stretch appropriately and work within the limitations of the students’ individual abilities. Jazzaddict Australasian is not liable for any injury sustained in a registered dance studio.

- Continuing Education. Annual teacher workshops are held every second year in Australia or New Zealand. Teachers are required to attend the workshop to maintain syllabus standards and be aware of developments and amendments. The workshop covers syllabus work as well as providing a forum for teacher feedback, networking opportunities and open classes.
- Communication. A regular newsletter “The Beat on the Street” is distributed to all registered studios throughout the year and will include examination scholarship announcements.
